Bestival 2009

Massive congratulations to both Maxx Traxx and the Pilots for last night stomping to victory in the Plugged In Bestival Bands and DJ Competition. Both categories were fiercely fought, with a very high standard of talent across all the entries. The event was judged by Rob Da Bank, and Isle of Wight radio’s Heather and Tom. Pilots came out on top in the band category, with The Dead Perrys just missing out, and to the delight of the local crowd Maxx Traxx opened his winning set with Derek Sandy’s “Welcome to the Isle of Wight” followed by an eclectic mix of Dubstep, Electro and Breaks.

Bestival spokesman Simon Blackmore said of last nights event: “The standard of entries in the Plugged In Bestival Bands & DJs Competition just seems to get better and better every year…  How the heck does such a small Island produce such an abundance of talent??  I know that Rob was really really impressed once again (don’t forget that he signed previous winners Bastila to his Sunday Best record label a couple of years ago!)”Plugged InThe winners will now both be rewarded with slots at the Bestival 2010, which takes place on 9/10/11/12th September. Pilots will now headline the Plugged In Bandstand on the Sunday, which will be an entire day dedicated to Isle of Wight talent, whilst Maxx Traxx will play the ‘Hidden Disco’, which will this year operate for the first time ever as a Silent Disco (where often two DJs play to a crowd of headphone wearing ravers with two styles of music!)

When asked about his winning mix, Maxx Traxx said “I just played tunes that I really like, and most of all just enjoyed being in the final of the competition… I think playing Derek Sandy might have clinched it for me though!” You can listen to/download a version of Maxx Traxx’s winning set from last night here: http://soundcloud.com/djmaxxtraxx/bestival-final-mix.
